I’ve put this guide together to help you decide if this is the right shed for you.
Recently I was in the market for a garden shed for my home. My garage was overflowing with my gardening equipment and kid toys and I needed to do something to free up some space so the car could still fit in the garage!
I had a little bit of space in the yard that could be used for a shed. I had two options: (1) get a traditional steel shed or (2) get a plastic shed.
Benefits Of The Keter Factor Garden Sheds vs Other Sheds
There are many benefits that about choosing a plastic garden shed over the more convention steel shed, these include:
Maintenance
Being made out of a steel reinforced plastic there is no maintenance to do on the shed. Rust is something that will never be your problem for you if you have a plastic shed.
Built In Floor
This was the number 1 reason I brought the Keter Shed. If I went with a cheaper steel shed I would have had to prepare a slab to attach it to. The Keter shed, however, comes with a built-in floor, so it only needs a flat surface for it to sit on.
Keter refer to it as a heavy duty floor. I haven’t tested how durable the floor is, but so far it seems to be good quality and even after a year of use there is no signs of damage or wear and tear.
Natural Lighting
All of the Keter sheds (including the 4×6 shed) have a built-in window and skylight. This is a great feature that I didn’t realize that I needed or wanted.
When the sun is out the skylight and the window lights up the inside of the shed so you can see inside of it.
Ease Of Assembly
Assembly of the shed I would say was easy, provided you just follow the instructions you shouldn’t have any trouble either. It did take me between 1 – 1.5 hours total to put together, so when I say easy I don’t mean quick.
Important: Use a drill for the screws. It will save you hours of using manual screw drivers and save your wrists.
Built In Shelving
This was another feature I wasn’t aware of when I ordered the Keter. It came with 3 x built-in “nooks” to place a piece of timber 33cm/13″ wide, which went the full width of the shed.
Built in shelving nooks saves the cost and inconvenience of buying shelves that don’t properly fit in.
This was a big cost saver as I didn’t have to try and find and buy shelving which would fit in the space.
Wide Opening
This was a new feature that the older Keter Factor 4×6 models don’t have, which wasn’t something I thought I needed but is still a nice feature that will probably be handy one day.
There is a “second door” on the shed that allows the opening to be made wider.
Security
If you are worried about the security of your items in a shed the Keter shed seems like it would be difficult to get into.
The door is also able to locked with a padlock.
Drawbacks Of The Keter Factor Garden Shed
As much as I do like the shed there are a few drawbacks that do need to be mentioned.
Ease Of Assembly
On Keter’s website they say that this shed can be assembled in 10 minutes. If this is the first one you have ever assembled and you are doing it on your own it will easily take an hour.
Cost
There are steel sheds on the market that cost almost as much as half of this shed, which does make the Keter look like expensive sheds.
Although for traditional steel sheds you will have the additional expense of pouring a slab of concrete to sit on.
